Dropping Anchor, I.M.O.

International Maritime Organisation HQ, London, England, UK

A commission working with one of Europe's leading workplace design practices, MCM Architects. This custom installation was developed for the reception area of the newly refurbished International Maritime Organization's headquarters, on the banks of the Thames in London. His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester officially re-opened the building in June 2008, when the installation was complete.
'Dropping Anchor' depicts the major oceans and landmasses of the world in a cylindrical form. Each of the 3,434 pieces of fine bone china, carries the sculpted relief of an anchor. The sculpture symbolises the way shipping and its activities reach all around the world, both on land and sea.

The installation is 5m (16'5") tall and 2m (6'7") diameter.
Each form is slip cast from English fine bone china based on the original sculpt in clay by Dominic Bromley.
