Shoal No.8, Fisketorvet Mall

Copenhagen, Denmark

Shoal No.8 is a custom commission for the atrium at the Fisketorvet Mall in Copenhagen. The sculpture is a body of 8,500 stainless steel fish, each 46cm (1’6”) long, and the sculpture is 12m (40ft) across at its widest. The fish are depicted swimming around an infinitesimal path, signifying Fisketorvet’s transition from a historical Danish fish market into the present-day shopping mall, and beyond. From some angles, the sculptures path resembles the infinity symbol (∞), symbolising this continuous change. The familiarity of this shape led to the naming of the sculpture; Shoal No.8, and is one of three artworks by Scabetti now on permanent exhibition in the mall.
