The designer behind Scabetti is the English born Dominic Bromley. Although
trained in product design, it was the world of interiors (and the varied objects that
inhabit that world) that most interested him. Having been raised in North
Staffordshire, a part of England with a rich heritage in ceramics, it was only
natural that his desire to create strong sculptural forms should become manifested
in clay.
In the world of Scabetti, function has to follow form. Dominic Bromley has and is
still influenced by the work of mid-century artists such as Jean Arp, Barbara
Hepworth and Henry Moore. Furniture design is always a real inspiration,
particularly the chairs of Scandinavian designers such as Eerio Aarnio (plastic
fantastic) and Arne Jacobsen (beautiful wooden furniture and classic egg chair)
and mid-century designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, right through to
the stunning polished aluminium loungers of Marc Newson.

All Scabetti ceramics are made in Staffordshire, England. The making of each
piece is based on a process unchanged for many generations. The majority of
new designs are sculpted in a three-dimensional form by Dominic Bromley or he
works closely with other sculptors. With the exception of certain pieces, the
designs are made by select potteries in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, using
traditional slip casting techniques that rely on each item being finished by hand.
All work bears a permanent Scabetti backstamp.

Following his introduction to bone china and it's translucent qualities, Dominic has
focused more on lighting. Around the same time, his wife, Frances Bromley (who
also trained in Industrial Design) became involved with realising certain designs,
working closely on the tantalising Drawn to the Light chandelier (bespoke version
shown above). Frances has further developed this light, creating a dramatic black
china version, along with stunning sapphire blue glass and solid oak variations.

Scabetti ceramics have been and are regularly featured in interiors magazines
such as Wallpaper, World of Interiors, LivingEtc and Elle Decoration, plus
newspapers and magazines around the world. The ceramics have been taken on
by exciting design-led retailers and galleries throughout the UK, as well as select
outlets in North America, Scandinavia, Europe and Asia.

In November 2004, Dominic was honoured to attend a reception held at
Buckingham Palace by the HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to
celebrate British Design, a prestigious event that had many of the luminaries from
the worlds of architecture and fashion, interior and product design.
